We had to be in position by 5 a.m., then watched the sun come up while the
medical people were receiving instructions:
Richard setting up the solar panel so the car battery wouldn't run out
later in the day. Of course, we mostly used handy-talkies:
Snow
remaining from storm on Saturday:
"Water Buffaloes", which the marchers use to fill up their
containers:
Volunteers preparing fruit and drinks, large medical tents in
background:
Richard KC5EVR and Charlotte KC5KWI, difficult to really make out the full
line of marchers extending for miles, notice the "misters" , the white cloud in
the background to cool off the marchers as they pass:
Lots of border patrol agents using these vehicles to pick up people in
trouble and transport to the nearest medical facility:
Medic-Vac helitopter patrolling, had to transport a couple of people to
hospitals:
Some images, notice the heavy packs weighing 35-45 pounds carried by some
of the military. The packs are mostly filled with canned goods which are
later distributed to local food pantries:
Had
to include this one of a very slender young woman, pack weighed 40 pounds,
stopped to rest and tend to her feet, etc.
Ready to go again!
On a lighter note, this was St. Patrick's Day after all, a few people in
costume:
This
is a photo I copied from today's Sun News, which realty captured the huge amount
of people participating this year, a record of over 8,600. We had never
seen the road so packed with people for such a long distance:
